The WCMS Administrators encourage WCMS users to explore the Hannon Hill Knowledge Base. The WCMS Guide exists to supplement the Hannon Hill Knowledge Base.
The IU Web Framework, created by IU Communications, is not supported by the WCMS Administrators nor Web Services Support. Learn more about IU Web Framework support.
The WCMS is a web development environment that generates static files and publishes them to the web server of your choice. The IU Web Framework is a premade site within the WCMS. Users can request an IU Web Framework site for use with the WCMS.
There are several possibilities as to why your site does not publish. The following steps will help you diagnose common site publishing issues.
Check Your Notifications
The WCMS gives a summary of each publishing job in your Notifications. Any publishing errors are displayed here.
1. Navigate to the Dashboard.
2. Click View All Notifications.
3. Select the most recent Publish notification.
Check Transport Configuration
A Transport represents a server to which content publishes. Learn more about Transports on the Hannon Hill Knowledge Base. Test your Transport connectivity by completing the following steps in the WCMS:
1. Navigate to Manage Site > Transports.
2. Right-click the Transport you wish to test.
3. Click TestConnection.
4. Click StartTest.
Check Destination Configuration
A Destination represents the server directory to which content publishes. A Destination requires a correctly configured Transport. Login to your hosting environment and see if your files are publishing to the location defined in your Destination. Learn more about Destinations on the Hannon Hill Knowledge Base. Test your Destination connectivity by completing the following steps in the WCMS:
1. Navigate to ManageSite > Destinations.
2. Right-click the Destination you wish to test.
3. Click TestConnection.
4. Optionally: Select the number of files and size of files to test.
5. Click StartTest.
The WCMS is a free service available to faculty and staff on any campus. Student groups may use the WCMS with the designation of an appropriate administrative sponsor (faculty or staff).
Websites built with the WCMS will not automatically have analytic tools.
Partnering with Creative Services in creating, migrating, or publishing your website using the WCMS is optional.
Accounts and access to the WCMS are managed and maintained by UITS. Creative Services does offer expertise in creating websites in the WCMS and can be hired to help with creative or technical work on your website, but its services are not required for access.
The WCMS allows you to publish to any web server for which you have proper credentials. Publishing to IU Sitehosting is one option.
The WCMS allows people without much technical training to make changes to a website more easily, but you will probably need an experienced developer to set up the website within the WCMS and add features.
The WCMS is an optional service available to faculty and staff on any IU campus. Student groups may use the WCMS with the designation of an appropriate administrative sponsor (faculty or staff).
